Deadline Reminder: Nominations for Executive Vacancies

REMINDER: The deadline for nominations for Executive Officer — Regional (Dufferin) and Executive Table Officer is Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at 4 pm. Please submit your nomination form (linked in the memo below) and your one page personal summary to gundibarbour@ugetfo.ca.

Dear Colleagues:

We have two vacancies on our Executive.  The first position is for an Executive Officer — Regional (Dufferin).  Candidates for this position must be Upper Grand ETFO members who teach in the Dufferin region this year.  The second position is for an Executive Table Officer. Candidates for this position must be Upper Grand ETFO members. They may teach anywhere in our Board.

As per our Local Constitution:
Article 9, Filling Vacancies:

  1. 9.4.5  If the Status of Women Chairperson, an Executive Officer – Equity, Executive Officer –New Member, or an Executive Table Officer position is vacant, the following procedure will apply:
  1. 9.4.5.1  The vacant position shall be advertised to the Membership for a period of no less than 10 school days.
  2. 9.4.5.2  If there is more than one eligible candidate for the position, the Executive shall elect a candidate at the next regular Executive meeting.
  3. 9.4.5.3  If there is only one eligible candidate for the position, that candidate shall be declared elected by acclamation without a ballot vote.
  4. 9.4.5.4  The successful candidate shall take office the commencement of the subsequent Executive meeting until the end of the current term of office.

9.4.6 If an Executive Officer-Regional position is vacant, the following procedure will apply:

  1. 9.4.6.1  The vacant position shall be advertised to members within the affected region for a period of no less than 10 school days.
  2. 9.4.6.2  If there is more than one eligible member for the position, the members within the affected region shall elect a candidate by secret ballot.
  3. 9.4.6.3  If there is only one eligible candidate for the position, that candidate shall be declared elected by acclamation without a ballot vote.
  4. 9.4.6.4  The successful candidate shall take office at the commencement of the subsequent Executive meeting.

The successful candidates would be expected to attend monthly meetings of the Local Executive, be active on one committee, and to report to the Executive regarding issues and concerns on behalf of members.  An honorarium is provided at the end of the year.  Cost of transportation, dependent care for after school meetings, meals and release time (if applicable) are provided.

Should there be multiple candidates for the Executive Table Officer position, then the Executive will elect one person at the November 21st Executive Meeting. All candidates will be notified of the results and the successful candidate will take office at the commencement of the December 19, 2018 Executive Meeting with the term of office running to June 30, 2020.

Should there be multiple candidates for the Executive Officer -Regional (Dufferin) position, a secret ballot vote shall take place. Only members who work in Dufferin will participate in the vote. Stewards will be provided instructions for conducting the vote, or having someone conduct the vote if they are a candidate, after the close of nominations. The successful candidate will take office at the start of the next Executive Meeting with the term of office running to June 30, 2020.
